The Tren de Palau is an association of railway enthusiasts, based on the free-time occupation of its members.
They, on a voluntary basis , with the support of Palau-solità i Plegamans council’s and participation of the users of Hostal del Fum park, have built a small narrow-gauge railway that meets one of the objectives of the association.
The railway, together with it’s facilities, is a source of pride for the people that has seen it born and it causes admiration amongst the passengers.
That’s not only because of the way it has been built, based only in the hope, teamwork and willpower of its members, but also thanks to the surprising result obtained from the modest resources used.
Because of that, Tren de Palau is a good example of the capabilities of our people, to propose and carry out imaginative projects, where work, together with the associative spirit and individual efforts, can overcome all the other shortcomings, even the hardest ones, when sometimes these values are not appreciated.
Laying tracks, leveling and ballasting, plus the construction of bridges, locomotives and wagons for the association has all been done by the members voluntarily during their free time. The expenses on fuel, materials, tooling and part of the projects gets financed with the member’s subscription and the ticket share from passengers.
The result is obvious: A railroad that ends up being a bit of everyone; a common benefit made with effort from railfans and visitors; a train beloved by everyone, just like the old-time endearing “carrilets”. It’s worth pointing out that it’s the railroad with the longest route of Continental Europe, considering it’s characteristics and gauge. |
