It is an enclosed area of 30 ha with local rural plant life made up of pine trees, holm oaks, poplars and riparian trees, amongst which a great variety of plants and flowers grow, such as thyme, basil, rosemary and other aromatic species, depending on the time of year.
The areas with trees alternate with grassy meadows which are crossed by asphalted paths along which you can ride bicycles, practice sport or simply have a picnic, between pools of clear water, linked together by a stream, which offer beautiful views, peace and quiet and pure fresh air.
The entrance to the park is on "Camí Reial", an ancient mediaeval path, legacy of the ancient Roman road which, following the left bank of the River Caldes, linked the Via Augusta - from Rome to Tarraco - with Caldae (Caldes de Montbui).
The Counts of Barcelona and the Kings of the Crown of Aragon used this path on their journeys to the Monastery of Sant Miquel del Fai.
Years later, (1820) parallel to the path, and separated from it by about a hundred metres to the east, the current C-59 road was built, on which the tracks of the old - no longer existing - Mollet-Caldes railway which went through Palau-solità i Plegamans (1880/1932 - 1936/39) were later laid.
Our Association bears the name "TREN DE PALAU", that of the small train currently running, and in memoriam of its older brother, long since gone. |
